{"id":30,"date":"2013-06-11T22:55:38","date_gmt":"2013-06-11T22:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stlawrencepreschool.co.uk\/?page_id=30"},"modified":"2025-03-13T18:32:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T17:32:07","slug":"our-curriculum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/stlawrencepreschool.co.uk\/?page_id=30","title":{"rendered":"Our Curriculum&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KEY PERSON<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All children have a key person who supports each child, giving them the reassurance to feel safe and cared for during their time at Pre-School.&nbsp; Each Key Person builds relationships with their children\u2019s parents\/carers and works in partnership with them to support the child\u2019s development. The key person creates a development file for each child that consists of photographs, observations and summaries of development which they take upon leaving Pre-School.<\/p>\n<p>Development summaries are shared termly with parents\/carers and folders are shared with parents at information evenings and can be viewed at any time, upon request.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We do our very best to make families feel happy and welcome here. We work in partnership with parents\/carers to ensure we offer the best support for children, by helping each child feel confident and secure within the group.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As parents, you are your children\u2019s first teachers, and the early years are the ones in which children learn more quickly than at any other time in their lives. We encourage you to talk with us about any anxieties you or your children may have, however minor. A little worry can seem enormous to a young child! With your help we can get to know your children really well, and learn how best to support them.<\/p>\n<p>We welcome parents\/carers to our stay and play sessions where they can join their child at Pre-School for various activities! We liaise regularly with parents\/carers and value their input.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Children at Pre-School follow a child-centred curriculum called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our curriculum is adaptable to support the needs of the children we have in setting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our local community has changed over recent years and although we are moving positively away from the Covid 19 pandemic it is evident the impact it has had on the children and their families within this period.<\/p>\n<p>Families have had less opportunities during lockdown to attend social\/group events for parents and children, along with an increase in the time spent on social media. This has had an impact on the children\u2019s speech and language development as well as their social interaction skills and lived experiences.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To support our children within Pre School we focus on &#8211;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communication and language<\/li>\n<li>Independence<\/li>\n<li>Physical development<\/li>\n<li>Wider experiences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We do this by<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Communication<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Providing a language rich environment<\/p>\n<p>We foster a love of books and singing throughout children\u2019s time with us \u2013 we love to share a book or sing a song as the children play. We are an accredited communication friendly setting and have trained staff to specifically support speech and language development within pre-school. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Wider experiences<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Providing new experiences for all children from all backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>Exploring and being part of our local community<\/p>\n<p>Providing sensory and messy play activities<\/p>\n<p>Inviting families in to setting to join us for a variety of stay and play activities<\/p>\n<p>Gardening and harvesting vegetables with our fantastic helper \u2018Grandad Dave\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Having a Pre school library and story sacks to loan.<\/p>\n<p>At least one outing per year and hosting a Christmas party.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Independence<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Providing a culture of independence through everyday life, encouraging them to take off their own coat, blow their own nose, open their own lunch etc.<\/p>\n<p>Providing a wide range of resources for children to self select.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting each child to learn and develop by scaffolding what they already know.<\/p>\n<p>Promoting independence at Snack time, our routine is a learning activity, we interact and chat with the children as they enjoy their fruit\/vegetable and a drink. We promote children\u2019s independence in pouring, selecting and clearing away their own pots.<\/p>\n<p>Toileting \u2013 we support families with potty training, working with and encouraging them to be independent when they leave us to go to school.<\/p>\n<p>Dressing, we provide a variety of dressing up items for the children to explore. We encourage them to put on and fasten their own coats, hats, shoes and socks etc.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Physical development<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Provide a variety of play spaces and equipment for children to explore<\/p>\n<p>Provide daily large and small movement activities to develop the manipulative skills needed to hold and control a mark making tool.<\/p>\n<p>Provide periods of outdoor play for all children, every session.<\/p>\n<p>Go on regular walks in the community &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Children attend Pre-School with a wide range of skills and experience. We provide an environment that enables each child to develop through play, Children are encouraged to develop strong characteristics of learning and independence.<\/p>\n<p>Children at Pre-School follow a child-centred curriculum called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which promotes learning through experience and the encouragement of independence.
